Ola Electric Future Factory Construction In Full Swing Ahead Of Launch This Year


The upcoming Ola Electric future factory is being built at a full pace ahead of the company’s rollout plans for later this year. The company will be introducing electric scooters in India and overseas.

Ola Electric will foray into the electric mobility sector later this year and the company is building the world’s largest scooter factory in India. The construction of the upcoming facility is in full swing and Yongsung Kim, Head – Global Sales and Distribution at Ola Electric recently shared images of the upcoming facility on his Instagram handle. The under-construction site at Bargur in Krishnagiri District, Tamil Nadu, saw its first column erected recently. Ola CEO, Bhavish Aggarwal also visited the site over the weekend.

The Ola future factory is being built with an investment of about ₹ 2400 crore. The manufacturer had announced that it will be ready to begin the first phase of operations at the plant in the next few months. The facility will be able to generate employment for over 2000 people initially, going up to 10,000 once fully operational. About 10 million man-hours have been planned to construct the facility.

The fully operational plant will meet Industry 4.0 standards will have an installed capacity of 10 million electric scooters per annum. The capacity will stand at two million units per year in Phase 1. The plant will have 10 general assembly lines and will be able to roll out a scooter every two seconds, and 25,000 batteries per day. The made-in-India scooters will be exported to Europe, UK, Latin America, Asia Pacific, Australia and New Zealand, apart from being sold in India. The massive scale promises competitive pricing on the Ola electric scooter that will take on the Bajaj Chetak, Ather 450X, TVS iQube and the likes in the segment.

Ola released images of the new scooter earlier in the year. The Etergo Appscooter-based model will get a removable battery, LED lighting, alloy wheels, telescopic front forks, digital instrument console, and more. The model will use a PMS motor with a range expected around 150 km on a single charge. It is also likely to get cloud connectivity and fast charging upon launch. Ola Electric also plans to set up the world’s largest EV charger network with 100,000 charging points in 400 cities over a period of time.
