Another week in the books, so let’s recap. Huawei held a major HarmonyOS event at which it unveiled new tablets, new smartwatches, gave us a list of devices to be updated to HarmonyOS and even showed a teaser of the much-awaited P50 series.
HarmonyOS is set to be available as an update from Android on Huawei’s lineup of devices, starting in China. Huawei’s latest devices like the Mate40 and P40 series can get the OS running right now, older devices will follow in Q3.
A short video teaser showcased the dual-ring design of the Huawei P50’s cameras. The P50 series promise a sleek design and to be among the first to sport a 1-inch sensor on a phone. Boy we can’t wait!
Xiaomi showed off 200W wired charging that tops up a Mi 11 Pro in 8 minutes. If you’re not into cabled charging Xiaomi also has a 120W wireless charger in the pipeline that does the same 0 to 100% in 15 minutes.
Computex 2021 kicked off, bringing a few announcements. Nvidia showed off the RTX 3080 Ti and 3070 Ti (not that you can easily find their non-Ti counterparts anyway), while AMD announced that it will bring its RDNA 2 graphics to Exynos chipsets this year.
LG officially stopped manufacturing phones this week and transitioned to making home appliances and TVs.
Meanwhile the OnePlus Nord CE 5G leaked in detail this week. It will feature a 6.43-inch 90Hz AMOLED, Snapdragon 750G chip and a 4,500mAh battery with 30W charging. Camera-wise the Nord CE 5G will feature an Omnivision 64MP main camera, 8MP ultrawide and 2MP depth sensor. There’s a 16MP selfie camera on the opposite side. The Nord CE 5G is coming June 11.
See you in a week!
Harmony will start rolling out to Mate40 and P40 series phones and a couple of others. Some devices as old as 2017 will also get the new OS .
This happens through the My Huawei app and at least right now it is limited to users in China only (but that could change after tomorrow’s event).
The adoption will be slow as there isn’t enough production capacity for large OLED panels to match Apple’s yearly shipments.
From what we hear, the phones will focus on vlogging. The Honor 50 series will be officially unveiled on June 16.
Today is the last day of production, employees will be reassigned to making appliances, an area where LG has found success.
The Huawei Watch 3 Pro also features a dual-band GPS receiver for more accurate positioning and a longer 5-day battery life.
Compare that to the A32 5G, which has a plain 720p LCD+ running at 60 Hz. The A22 5G is expected to cost less to boot.
